A European project for a social economy that reduces gender inequalities
The SEGIE project, in partnership with Italy and Portugal
In recent years, numerous reports have highlighted the need for better integration of women and gender minorities into the social economy, particularly as social entrepreneurs. But there is little data on the interconnections between the social economy and gender equality as a whole, and on the impact of the sector on the economic empowerment of women and gender minorities.
This is why Empow’Her conceived the SEGIE project. If the social economy is booming in Europe and providing new solutions to major social and environmental challenges, it also has a responsibility to foster positive change for all, not at the expense of women and other minorities. So there is a need to study this issue, raise awareness and develop practical tools to harness the power of Europe’s social economy to reduce gender inequalities.

The SEGIE project (For a Social Economy that reduces Gender Inequalities in Europe) is part of the Employment and Social Innovation strand of the European Social Fund+. This programme provides support for research activities, testing social experiments and innovative solutions in order to transfer and share good practice on a transnational basis. SEGIE was initiated by EmpowHer and is being carried out in partnership with three partners from Italy and Portugal.
The SEGIE project has three objectives :
As lead partner, Empow’Her is responsible for the overall coordination of the project, as well as the creation of an incubation programme to encourage the emergence of inclusive businesses and its implementation in France.
The project is funded by the European Union’s ESF+ (European Social Fund) programme and is being carried out in a consortium with three organisations: Acube (Italy), Action Aid Italia (Italy), and NOVA University (Portugal).
